The Real State of our Union

In the US today, we have a problem. Look around and you may feel like the world is starting to close in on us. Politicians trying to strip us of our liberties “for our own protection”. The Government growing too large to support its own bulky weight. And citizens so lazy, so apathetic, they don’t care about tomorrow and so do not prepare for it in any way. They don’t educate their children in the things that are important. Or if they try, their kids are so busy rebelling through youth at younger and younger ages they are not allowed to listen to their parents. It’s a sad world we live in. And every day I fear we are drawing closer to the dystopic world of our popular literature that warns us of such behavior. 1984, Farenheit 451, Soylent Green, V for Vendetta…we know the consequences…we can imagine it.
Now is the time to stop it. I just don’t know how.
Richard Dreyfuss, an actor many of you know as “Mr. Holland” (I remember as Matt Hopper…Jaws!) is part of a group called the Oxonian Society. A group dedicated to the challenge of the mind through speech and debate. A fantastic group from what I’ve seen and heard of them.
