Have we sunk this low?

This is an article I read today from the Associated Press.
The article is about Cameron Diaz’ trip to Peru. Apparently, back in the 80’s and early 90’s the Chinese Maoist “Shining Path” lead a severe assault on the people of Peru and killled something like 70,000 people.
That’s alot of pain for people to endure. So it comes as no surprise that the Peruvians were a tad put-off when Cameron showed up with a handbag with the slogan “Serve the People” (a Maoist slogan).
What upsets me isn’t that people took offense to it. What upsets me is the fact that she went out of her way to apologize for it, and was retorted with “On Friday, one prominent Peruvian human rights activist said Diaz should have been a little more aware of local sensitivities when picking her accessories.”
When picking her ACCESSORIES?!
I mean, seriously! It’s not like she was wearing a rare dodo bird feather wrap or dolphin skin boots for crying out loud! If I travel to Peru to see the…llamas or whatever, I am not going to be thinking “gee, does this printed t-shirt have something on it that may upset the entire people of an area because it brings back bad memories?”
No, and neither would you so don’t try to lie about it either. The world is a BIG place. And while I like to think I could actually FIND Kabal on a map…I do NOT know every political or war associated event that EVER took place in the world.
Just the ones that directly impact me. Like Cuba. Why doesn’t someone make Castro apologize for being a douchebag? He’s wearing that same stupid hat he’s had for 40 years. THERE’s a fashion faux pax!
And here’s the part that realllllly burns me like a bad STD. If our news correspondents were still worth a shit, we would (As Americans) probably be a little more informed about the goings on in the world. Instead, we get good-looking political activists as our reporters. So we hear NOTHING about the real world-wide events.
Here’s the perfect example…did you know that we may be at war in South America again soon? That story falls a bit short of Cameron’s Fashion offense and Paris’ getting out of jail I guess.
Seriously people, this our country, this is our news. Demand something better than what we’re being fed. Because in this day and age, if it isn’t about ass or money you won’t hear word-one on it.
Here’s a prediction too. I am betting within a week we’ll hear about Diaz’ contribution to some Peruvian human rights group.
